The Internet and World Wide Web has evolved into more than just a communications medium for static publishing. With a broad user base and the maturity of Internet and networking technologies, it is emerging as the platform for wide-area collaboration. However, many challenges and obstacles factor in into the viability of such a platform. These include a rich set of applications, a secure transaction and data storage model, efficient communications protocols and supporting infrastructural applications. The development of WebProj, a Java-based project management application, contributes to a number of the afforementioned aspects.
High-level module interaction and organization.
Moreover, we are also in the process of re-implementing and improving the OCT system, using Java and the PersistentObject package that we are developing. We hope these experience will lead us to delivering an efficient and robust set of protocols and the infrastructure needed for the future development of Java-based (CAD) applications.
