High-Speed Circuit-Tuning Techniques Based on Lagrangian Relaxation

Abstract

The relentless urge for higher performance, lower power consumption, cheaper manufacturing, shorter time to market, and more functionality makes the 21th century high-end VLSI design harder than ever. Circuit-tuning has been shown to be an effective way to improve circuit performance and reduce power consumption. On the other hand, it is virtually impractical to manually tune millions of transistors. As a result, efficient and versatile circuit tuning automation method becomes very crucial.

In this talk, I will first briefly overview several representative circuit-tuning techniques such as greedy, mathematical programming, and algorithmic approaches. Later, I will present an efficient and versatile circuit tuning method based on Lagrangian Relaxation and its comparison with other circuit-tuning techniques.
