Five laptops are utilized in this setup. At some point they may all be IBM ThinkPad 600's but currently we are using two older models in the setup along with three IBM 600's

Laptop #1 - Encoder

The primary laptop is one of the IBM ThinkPad 600's which is mounted to the Boat Anchor.

This key on the side of the base unit is used to secure the laptop to the base unit. By turning it counter-clockwise you can lock the laptop down. Turn it clockwise to release and eject the laptop from the base unit.

Ethernet hub are used to network the laptops. For this purpose, the IP address of each laptop must be changed.

 

Laptop #2 will be used to control the camera. A serial cable connected between laptop #1 will permit control over camera #1. Camera #2 can be similarly connected to camera #2. The picture above shows that power cable and serial cables that permit communication between the camera and laptop. These two cables, along with the Ethernet cable are all that will be plugged into Laptop #2.

 

At the podium the presenters will then have two machines at their disposal: the Presentation laptop (IBM 760 XD) and the Internet Laptop (Mary's IBM ThinkPad 600). Using the A-B Channel device the speakers can toggle between each of the two laptops and control which of the two is being projected. The A-B Channel device has three ports on the back. The right-most and left-most ports are for each of the two laptops while the center port is fed into the projector.
